Debates in Digital Humanities

The introduction of technology into the field of humanities have sprung a lot of debates between the contemporary humanist, and the digital humanist. As much as the world is tipping towards a more global and technological industry, so are lots of fields.

Lots of debates have been analyzed by various scholars concerning the rise of Digital Humanities, and that is what we would focus on in this post.

Anne Burdick argues that Digital Humanities allows for the experimentation of facts, just like in the contemporary humanities where collection and building of facts were important. She also argues that Digital Humanities allows several scholars work on a project, thereby allowing for collaboration. As she puts it, "Distributed knowledge production and per formative access"- this means that the work of one scholar is open to the criticism of other scholars from other various fields which would help achieve a common goal.

Mark C. Rino however argues that there could be some consequences to using codes in humanities as it could change the context of a literary text. He used the example of the super bowl ad of 2012 by Pete, where the word "shirt" was omitted in the code and it gave the idea of racism.

Lisa Spiro however calls for the defining of the values of both the contemporary and the digital humanists so they can work together.

See you all tomorrow.
