Constructing a Map

The process of working on our project has introduced us a new world in the digital field and has allowed us to explore a few digital tools. Although we may not be experts in the field, we however have generated enough interest into making our map look its absolute first.

The map on the public art n downtown Frederick might seem like a little project, but its been like a baby whom we've come to nurture and care for. We started with identifying the various art, sculptures, or murals which could be found all around downtown Frederick. Then there was a correspondence which allowed for the identification of some of these art, as well as the names of the artists who created them.

The first tool which we tried to work on in order to create the map was ArcGIS, but that seemed a little too technical and complicated and seemed like it might be a while before we could actually start to construct the map.

Thanks to the introduction to a newer and faster means of constructing a map for lay people like us, Cartodb. The first thing we had to do was create an excel spreadsheet which contained: the longitude, latitude, art name, artist name, categories, images, and link to info. This spreadsheet helped us to create our map, and we were able to work out the rest of the modalities.

However, the map is still a work in progress as we still need to work on our pop-up images, and the link to info. Once that is settled, we would make sure the map looks its best and host it on either wix.com or wordpress.org.
